Ubuntu on the Dell M1530

Posted by hank, Thu Mar 20 03:00:00 UTC 2008

I got my new laptop today!! It’s awesome - I installed Ubuntu very easily on it, and Beryl using a second monitor on the HDMI port even works without much tweaking (just enabling TwinView with the restricted nVidia driver):

I made an Ubuntu Wiki Page on the matter. All the information about what works and doesn’t is on there.

Thoughts about my next laptop

Posted by hank, Fri Apr 06 09:10:00 UTC 2007

I think I’ve decided what my next laptop will be. I’m considering a Z35FM with a T7600 processor. The problem it is would cost over $1500 said and done right now, and I want to spend more like $1200 maximum. Time to play the waiting game.

New Ruby Website

Well, there’s a new ruby website in the works. Someone spilled the proverbial beans.

Oooooh… Awesome. Also, you can get Ubuntu Stickers:

Flippin’ Sweet! Get your next laptop here!

Hmm. In other news, I changed the name of my blog from Porkchop Sandwiches to Relentless Pineapple. I have big plans. I posted my resume all over the place today. You can find it here, or in text form. I decided to do it in RDoc because I wanted an HTML version and a Text version, and I can do that easily this way.

Happy Birthday Me! Well, I think it’s settled:

[03:25am|hardwarehank> #8ball should I buy a new laptop with my BDay $$?
[03:25am|rufis/#modzer0 shakes the magic 8-ball... all signs point to yes
[03:25am|hardwarehank> then it is done

Oh alas, the hinge is tormenting me. I think I must buy another laptop soon. But should I do it before OSCON? I don’t know!!

New Laptop Possibility

Posted by hardwarehank, Thu Jun 22 00:38:30 UTC 2006

Well, ever since I inherited Kent’s broken VAIO and since my laptop’s hinges are breaking, I’ve decided that at some point in the near future I’ll need a new laptop, and a barebones one at that. I think I found one today:

This laptop has great reviews, works well in Linux, and supports the CPU/RAM I have lying around. Now I just need to sell the remnants of Kent’s laptop on eBay.
